Daniel Chapter 4 Notes

4:1-3: The King reaches this conclusion after the situation he experienced which is explained to us in verses 4-37.

4:8: Daniel’s Babylonian name, Belteshazzar, means, “Bel protect his life!” Bel was another name for the chief Babylonian god, Marduk.

4:10: The tree, as we will see in verse 22, represented Nebuchadnezzar.

4:11: “The tree grew large and strong…” Ironically, in many of the buildings of the King’s royal palace, his empire was represented by the symbol of a large, spreading tree.

4:13: messenger= angel. We get our English word, angel, from the Greek word, angellos, which means “messenger.”

4:26: “Heaven rules” -- The term “Heaven” or “Kingdom of Heaven” was somewhat of a “nickname” of God used by the Jews in the OT days.

4:28-- “All this happened” Everything happened because Nebuchadnezzar failed to heed the warnings and advice of his counselor, Daniel.

4:37-- “Those who walk in pride he is able to humble.”-- This fact about God is also reflected throughout other passages of the Bible, including Proverbs 3:34, James 4:6-10, and I Peter 5:5-6.
